Overview

The Shipping Manager will lead the shipping team, responsible for all inbound and outbound shipping, customs compliance and operational effectiveness for Humanscale International.  They will take the lead in providing operational and technical expertise to enhance the efficiency and cost effectiveness of the department. They will establish and maintain strong stakeholder relationships with Operations, Production Scheduling, Customer Service, Supply Chain and Sales. The role holder will also be responsible for building relationships with external transportation and logistics partners to ensure customer satisfaction and to deliver maximum advantage to the business.  They will also play a vital role in ensuring full legal compliance within governmental customs rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for day-to-day management, coaching and development of the Shipping Team
  • Oversee the creation of appropriate inbound and outbound shipping schedules
  • Providing timely and accurate communication of all shipping plans and schedules to all key stakeholders
  • Leading the department in establishing, reviewing, documenting, and implementing or updating processes as needed.
  • Creating and developing key commercial relationships with transportation partners
  • Oversee all shipping quoting activities and the provision of cost pricing to customers and channel partners
  • Responsible for day-to-day operational oversight of all inbound and outbound activities
  • Responsible for all areas of regulatory import and export compliance as applicable
  • Ensure identification of most cost effective and efficient shipping solutions for the organization
  • Plan, develop and execute shipping strategy
  • Work with other business units to support growth agenda
  • Develop transport strategies that take into consideration climate change and sustainability goals

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years’ leadership experience in international shipping
  • Fully conversant with all aspects of domestic and international shipping to include haulage, air and ocean freight
  • Expert working knowledge of and extensive experience working with International Export and Import documentation requirements
  • Experience of continuous improvement solutions is desired
  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Experience of operating in EU, UK, Eastern European, Middle East, Asia and African import and export markets
  • Proven track record of managing and developing high performing international shipping teams
  • Ability to lead the creation of data driven key performance indicator metrics and take appropriate action to drive and sustain service level targets
  • Proven experience of identifying and implementing cost effective, efficient shipping solutions for organisations
  • Strong focus on compliance
  • Strong focus on business improvements and financial management
  • Strong negotiating and influencing skills
  • Ability to work closely/in partnership with other key stakeholders in the achievement of business objectives
